Barbara Boxer YES

I have been on the email list of California Senator Barbara Boxer for some time now and am amazed at the woman's courage and persistence in the face of the idiocy of the current administration. Every day it seems that members of both the US House and Senate must face another battle on behalf of US. And yes we Americans tend to take their efforts for granted.

Boxer sends a nearly weekly email detailing her productivity -- bills introduced, alliances formed across the aisle, meetings, etc.  Recently she wrote of speaking to a mother of a military veteran who is begging for action to end this travesty of a war in Iraq. Boxer wrote, "As I listened to her well-stated pleas, I flashed back to October 10, 2002, when I stood on the Senate floor and spoke out against giving George Bush the power to go to war.

"It was a very lonely place to be ... in a small minority of the Senate and going against public opinion ... as I spoke these words: 'I have never seen a situation where the President of the United States asked for the ability to go to war alone and yet has not told the American people what that would mean.

'How many troops would be involved? How many casualties might there by? Would the US have to foot the entire cost of using force against Iraq? If not, which nations are ready to provide financial support? Troop support? What will the cost be to rebuild Iraq? How long would our troops have to stay there? What if our troops become a target for terrorists?'

"Every day I am thankful beyond measure that the support of Californians gave me the courage to ask those question -- and the courage to vote NO!" Boxer then assures us, "As long as the people of California want me there, I will stay in the fight."

One critical role that Boxer now fills is Chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. This makes her seat an extremely attractive 2010 target for the Republicans. Visit her website to subscribe to mailings or to contribute to her efforts.
