More Than Politics ...
No, the election's not done. But I've realized that my life must make space for music -- played live of course. I'd come to the realization that it had been way too long since the last fix of my drug of choice ...
When I walked into Humphrey's By the Bay the opening band, Chet Cannon and "The Delegates," was already rocking, with players joining in and dropping out while the core group just kept deepening the groove. As ever the rhythms and raunch of the blues burrowed its way into my soul. And I just had to buy a cd. (Hear a cut below.)
Then, as I waited for the headliner, Curtis Salgado (the acknowledged inspiration for the Blues Brothers), I wondered would I recognize him, would he sound like I remembered? After all, I first heard the legendary Portlander 25 years ago and wrote a definitive article about his razor-sharp "Stilettos" in 1987. Yes, I had seen his later incarnations but in the past few years he had undergone a liver transplant and life-altering experiences.
Positively,
Carolan
