Twice married, twice divorced -- Happily single since 1976 -- 4 children living, 1 deceased -- 5 grandkids, 1 great. And here's a history thumbnail:

She goes off to Pacific University on a small scholarship for Journalism and English -- then quits to marry Jerseyite John Zavodsky -- Daughter Dena born -- John's drafted and they all live and love in Orleans, France for 14 months -- Son Tad born -- At age 20 she's a high school faculty wife and a telephone operator-- Son Guy born -- Son Dale born -- Daughter Alana born -- She designs a new family home, takes college classes -- Pushes the envelope and must find her SELF so she leaves -- She explores, writes, wants to be a war correspondent -- Instead she marries again -- Oops, bad move as BG turns out to be an abuser -- Time for do-it-herself divorce -- Son Guy dies from medical complications -- She needs to recuperate, regroup, reintegrate.

So on to therapy -- Plus real estate, advertising, travel -- And finally in the realm of music she is published -- "The First Book of Oregon Jazz, Rock & All Sorts of Music" brings minor fame and major famine -- But now she heeds the call of the drums, invests years in crafting a wry take on music, multi-culture and mayhem -- And moves from rainy hometown Portland to sunny San Diego.

Then curiosity about contemporary music leads her into the hideous history of the Slave Trade, to African traditions, South American sensibilities and Portuguese audacity -- in Brazil she travels to the place that may well be the cradle of "American" music, the Pelourinho (slave pillory) of Salvador da Bahia -- And she still hopes to see infamous slave castle in Ghana where milliions of Africans were herded and shipped off to Brazil and beyond.

She also loves her day job as senior developmental editor of major reference works for Academic Press/Harcourt and enjoys sharing love with her family, a few close friends and one remarkable man.

Positively,
Carolan
