Eu estou aprendendo Português !

On this lovely Sunday there are many things I should be or could be doing that involve sun or shopping or even cleaning. But what I AM doing is working on learning Portuguese for my upcoming visit to Brazil.

This will be my third stay in Salvador da Bahia -- for me as close to heaven as it gets
(translated loosely: como perto de céu como adquire.)

Now, I understand that Brazilian Portuguese is quite different from the original in Portugal. It would seem that 500 years of AmerIndians and Africans in the mix have made their mark on language as well as many of the entrancing customs.

At any rate, I've started with the simple, such as good day, boa dia -- however, all is not as it looks. Rather dia is pronounced jheeah. And then there's the interesting "h" for "r" convention ...

Eu estará ficando en apartamento em Barra praia área. Translation: I will be staying in an apartment in Barra beach area -- which is pronounced "baha" if you please.

Here's Barra beach on an average afternoon -- just one of the wondrous places in Salvador, where there are bay and ocean views, breezes and music to be heard around every corner.
I can't wait to get back. Stay tuned ...
