Fly ...

Today I made a surprising find among old papers. A telling poem presented to me 30 years ago. Written by former spouse Bob Maas Gladden from Lufkin, Texas. Written several months after I ended our marriage.

                               Fly
                        little bird fly
                               As
                 day by day
                        your wings grow stronger
            straining against the tug

                of mother earth
                   breaking the bonds
                         of tradition
                   eluding the nets
                          of complacency
                   escaping the cages
                          of convention

             The thrill
                   of holding you
                          but only for a moment
             For to stifle your flight
                   is to destroy your beauty

                               So
                         FLY LITTLE BIRD FLY
             remembering that
                   sometime the greater love
                               is
                   to set a bird free

Positively,
Carolan
