What a day ...

On this cold grey day -- way more like Portland than San Diego -- I had intentions of being out 'n about,  But I couldn't quite get motivated and so have spent the day emotionally immersed in an amazing movie trio.

Back to back on the Encore Love channel were:
Come See the Paradise, Say Anything and Innocence.

I got hooked quickly on interracial love amid the disturbing little-known details of the WW II round-up and imprisonment of American citizens who happened to be of Japanese descent. (The only thing I ever knew about this was the one Japanese guy in my high school, who we knew had been in the camps as a little boy.)

And then the adorable puppy-dog appeal of then 20-something John Cusack and Ione Sky with a first love that just had to conquer all.

And finally I cried my eyes out at
love rediscovered at a certain age. And marveled at the assemblage of talented writers, director, actors and musicians that came together in a story that was by turns beautiful, happy, poignant, horrific. One with indelible ideas:

"The most important thing in the world is love -- all the rest is rubbish!"
"My god, love at her age -- how could she?!"
"The best love is to love everything and everybody equally."
