It's about the brain ...
I first knew of V.S. Ramachandran (M.D., Ph.D.) in my years at Academic Press. And then I was assigned as the developmental editor of The Encyclopedia of the Human Brain.
As Director of UC San Diego's Center for Brain and Cognition, "Rama" as he is known, was our Editor-in-Chief. It took more than two years to publish the hefty 4-volume set, and I was entranced with every article that came in and each step of the process.
It was also during that period that Rama became a star in the "trade" world as well, with the fascinating book Phantoms in the Brain.
I had always had an interest in the brain, if more from the psychological aspect, but after this involvement I was hooked on the science. Now, in my job at UC San Diego, I can become immersed in the subject -- reading, learning. editing -- what a blast!
I've also followed Rama's experiments and pronouncements with great interest. And recently he was on tv talking with Charlie Rose, and in 29 minutes of questions and answers he explained many workings of our brains more understandably than most of us non-technically-trained folks could ever imagine. Positively,
Carolan
