A Writing Trajectory

For some time I have marveled at the spectacular talents of a young San Diego area man who writes as Thee Romantic. There's no arguing that his insights, depth of feeling and inspired use of words both in prose and poetry put some of my writing here and elsewhere to shame.

Then this morning after reading the first pages of a novel by a pianist whose distinctive music I praised years ago in my jazz book, my mind went to how powerful is his writing! Yes, Don Alberts' "The Rushing: Manbaby and the Crooked Road to the Big Time," billed as a journey through the catacombs of jazz and the subculture of the '60s, not only drew me in and also sent my mind into new orbits.

It is a fact that from the moment I touched a typewriter, the keyboard has been my conduit to words, thoughts, ideas and all things ethereal. And so now has come a visceral need to tap into infinitely more of my emotions and creativity.

Thus, while for the past four years this blogcast has been a prized outlet for all sorts of rants, raves and reminiscences, replete with accompanying music where I could fit it in, "On-the-Upbeat" may soon take a backseat to an as-yet unnamed blog exploring and giving voice to deeper feelings and vulnerabilities. Please stay tuned for details.

Positively,
Carolan
