Influences
While exploring names, themes and initial content ideas for my projected new blog, I have encountered a series of most intriguing influences ...
- Reading on the cover of the current San Diego Reader a mind-grabbing quote: "Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History." This has the ring of truth to me, since for years I've tried hard to behave well, all the while striving to be the authentic me who achieves approval, acclaim, notoriety as writer or editor or lover or just aging sage.
- Discovering that I've been effectively played by someone I care about.
- Letting emotionality run rampant throughout the 2½ hours of "Biutiful," a gut-wrenching Spanish movie with the amazing Javier Bardem an Oscar nominee. Filmed in Barcelona on streets I walked a few weeks ago, the scenery is beautiful, the music memorable but the story and characters are unutterably sad. I actually left the theater in tears.
- Reading from a fortune cookie later at Panda Express:
Functioning superbly comes automatically to you!
So the experiences of the past 24 hours may be the final push toward shifting to increasingly creative writing and on to my new blog -- tentatively titled on-the-edge.
And enjoy a little Spanish mood music.
Positively,
Carolan
