The Eternal City

First shore excursion of my NCL cruise: ROME, the Eternal City --
which on this morning had a crowd of demonstrators staked out at the Colosseum. Sooo our day-long tour went through a swift switch, taking us to St. Peter's Basilica so early we avoided crowds. Beauty abounds inside the imposing building. But among all the beauty for me the highlight was Michelangelo's Pieta.

From here we entered the decidedly more earthly world of the Colosseum (the first sight of the exterior to the right, a glimpse of the interior on the far right)..

And then it was off the Forum, and I had no idea how large an area it occupied.

When I look at these photos, I scarcely remember how horribly cold was the day or even the talk back on the ship that some of my fellow travelers had actually run into the demonstrators and heard what they were sure had to be gunshots.

And now please enjoy the sensual narrative of my new blog  -- On the Edge

Positively,
Carolan
