Life changes
A while back I planned a little trip to Portland, as I had been gone from my hometown a lonnnng time. And then I started thinking about looking around at apartments while I was there. Like maybe eventually moving back.
And it hasn't been all that long since I made big alterations to the plan, actually quitting as the TDLC institute database admin/writer/editor job at UCSD that I've loved for the past 3-1/2 years.
Now in Portland for the past ten days, I've secured the most perfect spot for me at this stage of my life. The area is still called Nob Hill, from its sometime-ago hoity-toity dwellers. And I will be on the 8th floor of a venerable mid-rise building with a western horizon view.
But this uptown area is now 100 percent walkable and/or MAX-able (light rail running downtown in 5 minutes, to Beaverton in 15). Everywhere is a kaleidoscope of shops, cafes, markets, bakeries, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, "Freddies" (the all-in-one store that preceded Wal-Mart and whose goods are way mo bettah). And yes sidewalks, street lights, people that smile and say hello.
If I can pull off the other part of the plan -- temp or part-time admin/writing/etc at UO Health & Science University, just up the hill from me -- I do believe I'll be in heaven!
Positively,
Carolan
