Whenever I get into old filing folders that have been out of sight and mind for many years, I end up in shock and awe -- reactions generally caused by reminders of just how "out there" were the ideas -- nay the dreams -- of the younger me.

Latest discovery: a typewritten 2-pager -- no date but the Courier font says it not only preceded computers but Selectric typewriters as well.

Heading: Non-Fiction Book Proposal "International Jazz All-Star Convocation"

And then in tidy blocks come Objective, Organization, Writing Style, The Players, Introduction, Composition and Author Qualifications.

Now, today I know that this is in no way the correct format for a book proposal, even though the idea was certainly unique: "To provide provocative, in-depth profiles of several jazz musicians ... organized as a mythical International Jazz All-Star Convocation, representing the instrumentation in a jazz big band plus a few distinctive vocalists."

I don't think this ever went to a publisher. However, the idea didn't die, as much later I changed the music style and "catchified" the title, turning the First Ever Global All Star World Music Convocation (GAS-CON for short) into an amazing fictionalized music happening staged over two days in the Bull Ring of Malaga, Spain.
